Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has warned that the same forces that attempted to mislead the nation during the 1971 Liberation War and subsequent political crises are once again spreading confusion.

Addressing a public rally at the Jashore Central Eidgah Maidan on Monday afternoon, the BNP chairman promised that his government would thoroughly pass the “July Charter” — a roadmap for state reform — in parliament to fulfill the mandate received in the Feb 12 elections.

“We must be vigilant against those who want to spread confusion,” Tarique told the crowd.

“Those who tried to mislead people during the 1971 Independence War, in 1986, and in 2009, are the same individuals attempting to do so again today.”

Stressing that the time for chaos has passed, the premier asserted that no one would be allowed to disrupt public peace under his administration.

“We will not give anyone the opportunity to ruin the people’s peace…,” he said, introducing the new national slogan: “Korbo Kaj, Gorbo Desh, Shobar Age Bangladesh” (We will work, we will build the country, Bangladesh first).

Tarique hit back at critics who have accused the BNP of being an accomplice to the fallen fascist regime.

He questioned the integrity of those who had initially called for a blanket pardon after the Aug 5 transition.

“From the beginning, the BNP has been clear: those who murdered people in July and August must face justice. Yet, some people said, ‘we have forgiven everyone’. Now, we see those same loud-voiced critics holding secret meetings with fascist accomplices far from Dhaka,” Tarique remarked.

He noted that when the public surrounded the location of those meetings, the participants were unable to provide any answers regarding their presence there.

Outlining the government’s agenda, Tarique said that the Feb 12 election mandate was specifically for implementing the promises made to the people.

He identified key priorities, including improving healthcare through measles vaccination and better services, expanding education for women and modernizing schools, creating jobs for youth and supporting farmers, and developing infrastructure such as road repairs, auditoriums, and nationalizing colleges.
