Bangladeshi Expat Tarique killed in Bahrain
A Bangladeshi expatriate has been killed and two others injured after missile debris struck a shipyard near Bahrain’s capital Manama amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. Bangladesh Ambassador to Bahrain Md Rais Hasan Sarower confirmed the development on Monday.
The dead man was identified as Mohammad Tarique, 48, from Azimpur Union in Sandwip Upazila of Chattogram.
The injured are Md Azim, also from Sandwip, and Md Kamrul from Tangail district.
All three had been working as labourers at a shipyard near Manama.
According to the ambassador, debris from a missile fell onto a vessel at the yard on Monday morning, triggering a fire and leaving Tarique dead at the scene. The injured were taken for treatment.
The incident comes amid heightened hostilities in the Gulf region following the US-Israeli joint strikes on Iran.
In a social media post, Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior said the fire at the shipyard has been brought under control.
Tarique’s cousin Mosharraf Hossain, deputy director of Chattogram Maa O Shishu Hospital, also confirmed the death in a Facebook post.
Having lived in Bahrain for nearly 27 years, Tarique had been the primary source of income for his family.
His death has cast a shadow of grief over relatives back home.
The incident has stirred anxiety among Bangladeshi expatriates in Bahrain.
Since Saturday, Feb 28, Iran has been launching attacks on US facilities in the region in response to strikes by the United States and Israel.
In a similar attack on Saturday, three people were killed in the United Arab Emirates, including a Bangladeshi national.
Meanwhile, four Bangladeshis were injured at Kuwait airport in an Iranian drone strike.
